What Does Syncing Do?

Once you sync your Garmin data with your Apple HealthKit, you'll be able to see your steps and other Garmin activity in your TrainWithMe daily activity summaries.

Why Does Syncing Matter?

(-) Convenience. You'll be able to track your daily activity in the TrainWithMe app at the same time you get messages and workouts from your trainer.

(-) Accuracy. When you sync, your trainer can see a comprehensive account of your daily activity and build your personal training program accordingly.

(-) Accountability. Syncing helps your trainer can give you a pat on the back when you've done a great job, and hold you accountable when you're not as active.

Step 1: Download Garmin Connect

First you'll need to go to the App store and download Garmin Connect. Click the link below to get started.

Step 2: Create an Account or Sign In

Next, you'll need to create an account or log in to your existing account.

Step 3: Pair Your Device

Select a Garmin fitness tracking device to pair to the Garmin Connect app. If you don't see your device, select the "Browse All Compatible Devices" option at the bottom of the screen.

Follow the prompts until your connection is complete.

You must be in a place with WiFi to enable this connection.

Step 4: Turn On Apple HealthKit Permissions

Next, you'll need to turn on Apple HealthKit permissions.

The Garmin app will take you to a screen where you can do this in one click by tapping the "Turn All Categories On" button at the top of your HealthKit.

Keeping Your Step Count Accurate

Those of you who are tech-savvy might realize that when you sync your data, your steps may be double-counted because your HealthKit AND your Garmin will be counting steps.

How can you avoid this? If you want to count steps exclusively on your Garmin, you can turn off your HealthKit's step tracking.

To do this, go to Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness > Health, and turn the toggle off.

Refreshing Your Activity Data In TrainWithMe

Your Garmin Connect app will sync your data to your Apple HealthKit each time you open Garmin Connect.

Once your HealthKit data is updated, you can update your TrainWithMe data by opening TrainWithMe, clicking the Account button, and clicking Refresh HealthKit. This will pull your updated HealthKit data into TrainWithMe.
